Why is there so much failure in the WWE PG Era?

his is why I think WWE has failed miserably.

1. Comparisons

A lot of people talk about and compare the PG Era vs The Attitude Era. Now the problem with this era isn’t as much that it is PG, but this era is more Dramatic. Basically it is Drama vs Attitude which is what people are really talking about. Now think about it. The Attitude Era was a time where you didn’t wait on these superstars to have epic encounters or moments at WM, they just did it. Regardless of what event it was or how they did it, which defined attitude. Now the PG (Drama) Era consist of making dramatic storylines for family audience that isn’t as strongly effective as “Attitude”. An example is Rocks return and the year long dramatic wait for Rock vs Cena 1, Triple H returning to face Lesnar at Mania, and even the “End of An Era”. This is all leading to my next point.

2. Predictability

Before In the Attitude Era (And even ruthless aggression era) it was unpredictable to determine the outcome of a lot of matches and even predict the next years Wrestlemania event. As now in the PG Era it is too predictable which leads fans away from the program knowing what will happen. Not only that, but it hurts the program way too much. My guess as of now is either a Rock Cena III, Cena vs Taker or Rock vs Brock encounter at WM30. Because WWE has made it that predictable for their main events next year and it no longer makes the road to Wrestlemania interesting.

Conclusion. Predictability ruins everything.

3. Championships

Before PG: Cruiserweight, Womans, Raw Tag Team, Smackdown Tag Team, US, Intercontinental, Hardcore, World Heavyweight, WWE Championship.

Now: Divas, US, Intercontinental, Tag Team, World Heavyweight, WWE Championship

6 vs 9. These titles were what defined a lot of superstars. Mick Foley being the Hardcore champion. The Hardys, Dudleys and even Team angle as Tag team champs, Trish Stratus Womans Champ, etc. Now in this era the only person that has defined a belt to their own name is of course John Cena. Every other belt hasn’t been well represented in these last few years. Which is what hurt the characters having to rely on their own gimmicks and not what they have anymore.

4. Divison

WWE does not know where to keep their superstars. There are superstars who will always be involved with the main two Belts, and then superstars who are expected in either tag team division or secondary belts (US, IC). Because of this, the entire roster is mixed up on too many occassions. An example is the Big Show, he just doesn’t fit well with the World Heavyweight belt, Show would be better in the tag team division with Henry that could help bring stable teams again (Which WWE barely has).

5. Limits

Because this is the PG Era, it hurt the WWE with the storyline writing to what they can pull of now. Now only does it hurt the storylines, but it also hurts the characters. They all have limits now and it seems that every face in the WWE is the super baby face guy. They no longer have a star in the company that can kick *** and pull of bad stuff that still makes them an incredible face. This is what is hurting WWE very bad. It has become the modern Good vs Evil and Good always prevails and does the right thing. The storylines give drama to the superhero character winning in the end.

6. John Cena

25 John Cena ran with the belt. The company did amazing with Cena that year (And they were doing it right). He was the chang gang leader that many people loved and years later he turned into the Hustle Loyalty Respect Superman of the WWE which is what people truly hate about him. Not only is it because he turned pure babyface, but WWE did not know how to keep Cena out of that WWE Champinship picture. The belt always went back to Cena after a star prevailed over him.

Ex.

Edge beats Cena, Cena gets belt back
RVD Beats Cena, Cena gets belt back
Randy has belt due to Cena injury, Cena gets it back
Triple H has belt, goes back to Cena
Batista wins belt, back to Cena
Miz wins belt, goes back to Cena
Punk wins belt (Holds off Cena only because of the Rock feud, and Lesnar return) Cena has it again .

I respect John Cena for his dedication to the WWE organization. But because WWE has focused so much on him in these last few years 05 – 13 (8 Years) He has become even bigger than the WWE belt now. He has become the sellout of the PG Era leaving his true gimmick, for a Childs charcater. Which affected WWE in the other 5 ways I have mentioned. They focused on him too much that this company lost focus on the other belts, therefore removing them, Made WM too predictable, hurt the younger roster and divison since he is always the opener, closer and main eventer of almost every raw, and is the main reason to why the PG Era has failed in comparison the the Ruthless aggression era and Attitude Era

So what are your thoughts?

  • I completely agree with you. Moreover, wwe can give us better storylines even within the PG boundaries (remember the 2011 MITB), but they don’t, coz it won’t keep the kids interested anymore. This is where WWE becomes a joke and rather a joke of its former self (attitude era n ruthless aggression era).
  • Very well said, spot on. I think in the end WWE realized that they can profit in other ways than watchable programming, like for Cena being the top guy they figured they would sell alot of his merchandise to kids and they did succeed with it and are holding onto that until kids stop buying his merchandise. Frankly, I think WWE themselves already know their current product and roster completely suck. In the end, it was a business move by Vince, its all about money now, not about creativity.

  • My thoughts are that if you don’t like it you should stop watching it and get a life
