People are edified through sports and they make friends with each other and have fun and sports are supposedly healthy.

Anything that separates us from God, that is righteousness is sin. Edification is essentially being strengthened in Christ. So if those friends help you get closer to God…awesome. But if not you’re time would be better spent doing other things for the Lord. Besides physical training is of little value next to Godliness. That is to say however that if something is done for the pure purpose of glorifying God then even exercise can be done unto the Lord.
In the end if you want the perfect answer ask God. He will lead. Trust only in Jesus for everything and you’ll know all things. 1 John 2:20.
