  • Duct is designed based on CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air the equipment generates. Depending on the CFM you need to increase or decrease the size of the duct. Now if the duct was already too large then they may not have needed to reduce any duct, or it wasn’t part of the deal you had with that contractor.
    He may have installed a variable speed blower which will help with generating the correct amount of CFM you need, but at the cost of more electricity. So the efficiency just got kicked out the door.

    If the a/c starts freezing up, the duct is more than likely undersized. Keep an eye on the copper, suction pipe leaving the evaporator.

    Maybe you should get another company out there to PM the a/c since its that time. Tell that company its a new system and to check the duct size.
