Will tenncare medicaid back pay?

I am pregnant and i started going to the doctor at the end of March. However i didnt apply for tenncare til about 3 weeks later. Tenncare accepted me but they said they dont back pay anything before the date of application. This is where i am confused because my sister recently had a baby and i went with her to all doctor appoinments and dhs and everything and so i know for a fact that she had gone to two doctor appointments before ever applying for tenncare, and they went back andpaid everything, she didnt owe a dime. But they are telling me i still owe 4 and i cant even go back to the doctor til its paid.

Update:

Sorry but you are by no means paying MY bills. My fiance and I had more than enough to support a child thats why i didnt apply for Tenncare in the first place. He worked for a WiFi company out of state, however he lost his job AFTER i got pregnant through no fault of his own. Things happen that we dont plan on so quit judging before you know the whole story.

Update 2:

I do have insurance. Im on bluecross and the 4 is what was left that insurance didnt pay. And the money that was put back in the bank is what had to be used to live on and pay the rest of the bills, buy everything needed for the baby including a car with backseat. Until he was able to find another job… you sure seem to know alot about my situation just from one little question i asked on yahoo..

  • It does not matter what happened in someone else’s claim or situation. There could be factors that applied there that don’t apply to you. It’s possible that the rules changed.

As it stands, Tenncare has told you they don’t back pay. Which makes sense. Most health insurance plans do not pay for medical treatment incurred before the policy went into affect.

Tenncare is welfare. But it’s a medical plan so it’s likely to follow many of the same rules other medical plans follow. For example: my BCBS health insurance plan will not pay for any medical bills incurred prior to my being added to my employers plan.

Per your added information, the $4 is your co-pay and deductibles from your BCBS plan. That may also be a reason why Tenncare is not paying. Since you were covered by a health plan at the time those visits were incurred, they don’t owe your co-pay and deductibles.

As far as things the baby needs: yes, you need a car seat or a car with a back seat. However, if you’re in your first tri-mester you won’t need the car seat or new car for another 6 months. Therefore, you did not have to buy a car seat or new car right now. Same thing with other baby items.

Right now, the priority is paying for the medical care required to have a healthy baby. If you don’t get the proper care and don’t carry the pregnancy to term, that car seat will be pretty useless.

As far as things the baby needs: since money is tight- shop garage sales, thrift shops, consignment stores, craigslist. Babies tend to out grown things long before the item wears out. So you can get lots of baby items at great prices if you do a little searching. Let your friends and family know you’re going to have a baby and that your man is out of a job, so you’d be grateful for any gently used baby items they can donate to your family. You’d be surprised. But that’s another way to get great stuff for free or very cheap. You’ll also get items you need at your baby showers. But those won’t happen until you’re at least 7 months along.

As it is, call up your doc and set up a payment plan so that you can pay them the $4.. Tenncare has already told you it’s not covered by their plan and BCBS has paid the bills per the terms of that plan. So the $4 is your bill to pay.

Good luck and I hope you have a safe and healthy pregnancy.

  • So the program changed… you owe the $4 and must pay before you can see the doctor again.

Tenncare is welfare. Stop the cycle = don’t have a baby you can’t afford. It’s not fair to the child and it’s not fair to the rest of us paying your bills.

Add’l info: If you had more than enough to pay for the child= you would have had insurance, you would have had the $10K in the bank to cover the child birth…

~ if he lost his job and you are applying for medicaid a fews weeks later you were always coasting on the edge.

  • They don’t backdate earlier than the date you applied for coverage. They’ve told you this.

Welfare is BROKE, there are just too many knocked up women with their hands out expecting welfare to pay the costs of having a baby. You’ve GOT insurance. Use it.

And until “fiance” marries you, he’s just the guy who knocked you up.

  • A Hunch is correct. Welfare is out of money and so they are no longer paying back charges. You owe the $4.
