Will the college provide all the equipment at the walk-on tryouts?

Will,I think probably yes (helmets, uniforms) but will they provide shoes, pads, and helmet visor (I think that I can play without the visor but it will be much better if they will provide them)

I am a WR that’s why I am worried about the visor because I wear glasses

  • You’ll need your own cleats if there is such a thing as walk-on tryouts…. If they require pads and helmets then the school will provide them… You should contact a member of the coaching staff to find out for sure though…. Good luck…

  • NCAA takes the best riders, that’s it. IHSA has many different levels at which riders compete based on their riding and showing experience: Beginner W/T, Beginner W/T/C, Advanced W/T/C, Novice Flat, Novice O/F, Intermediate Flat, Intermediate O/F, Open Flat, and Open O/F. If you’re advanced enough to start on a level that has O/F, your coach won’t necessarily have you show in both classes. If you’re stronger on the flat, they’ll have you show just on the flat. If you’re stronger O/F, they might have you show just O/F. You also get points towards that specific class. So you can show one level on the flat, and another over fences. The show format is also very different from regular shows. You get randomly assigned a horse from the selection the host school has provided for that class, and you don’t get any warmup time before being tossed into the ring. All you know about the horse is what the board tells you, and what you can surmise from watching the horse being schooled. Also, you might be riding in only one class the whole day. Since the school will probably have riders of all levels showing, you have to go with them when they leave early in the morning to go to the show, sit around and wait for your class, and wait for the show to end before you can leave with the whole team. And as the majority of the shows happen in the winter, depending on where the school is and where you show, you’re going to be cold. PS- LopeSlow described the Western part of IHSA. I described the English part.

  • Most colleges never put pads on for walk-on tryouts. You need cleats and that is all. It will be agility and speed drills, shouldn’t be any contact, or you would have the band and chess team hurting themselves trying to make the team. No offense, as I was All-District academic and in football/baseball in Florida. Speed is your only need, all else can stay in the car.

  • Yes, with the exception of a pair of cleats (and socks), your high school will provide you with the rest of your football uniform equipment.

As for cleats, I highly recommend getting a new pair of Adidas AdiZero 5-star cleats. In my opinion, this is the best pair of cleats ever.

By the way, you should be able to find a pair at your local Kohl’s, or sporting good store, at a much cheaper price.
