Does the HP MediaSmart EX support RAID?

I purchased the HP MediaSmart EX but have not received it yet. I am curious if it support RAID, if so which ones. If it does not can I add a RAID card? I kind of impulsed it because it was so cheap and I did not think to check this out before buying. If not to both of these questions what is an alternate solution for a fail safe for TB of data. I see carbonite is unlimited data, but TB? I do not want to add another TB external HD just to back it up, that will cost a lot more. Thank you in advanced.

Answer

  • The answer is no they use a system called folder duplication which is supposed to be more flexable than raid giving the option of what you want duplicated but it requires a bit of faith that it will work if one of the drives dies as you have no idea where the data is duplicated to. This system is part of the drive extender system which incorporates and internal or external drives attached to the system as one drive. More detailed info at site in source.

    Hope this helps.
