Dusting tips/suggestions?

For an old lady like myself, seems dumb to ask. About a year ago we replaced our old big screen inch TV to a LED HD. So we had to buy a TV stand to put DVD and receiver on and other gadgets, since the old one we could add to the top of the old TV.

So I got this great looking black glass stand. But it appears to attracts dust like I have never seen. I have been using glass cleaner but it looks great for maybe a day tops, then the dust starts again. If I could remove the DVD and receivers and such would not be so bad, but have to go around, behind, under and not try and loosen any wires in the process which all of us have done and find not working till we find the loose wire. lol

Anyway, is there any products out there that would “scare” away the dust so I would not have to dust it so much? Also one other thing, is there anything you use for bricks in front of a fireplace. I have used glass cleaner and furniture wax for dust there also and it accumulates.

any help would be appreciated

Update:

I have also used the swiffer duster and love it especially when company comes and can do in minute.

  • We had a bad dust storm in Sydney recently and I heard a a lot of great tips for dusting.

A cheaper way than getting the swiffers and a way that works well on walls, is to use old pantyhose and a broom:

Get a clean broom (one with soft bristles) and put pantyhose over the broom head. The broom can go into uneven surfaces, like the walls, and the pantyhose is static, and picks up dust better than just the broom or most cloths. Shake out the broom and pantyhose outside. Wash the broom afterwards.

If you use a hand-held sweeper, you could use the same technique on the TV unit – saves you buying swiffers. (You need to start with a relatively clean broom, though).

  • I just found a site with thousands of downloadable woodworking plans, it s really great. You can check it out here ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) Here is an honest review : If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where TedsWoodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there’re step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you’re one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, TedsWoodworking will change your perception. In Ted’s Woodworking you will get everything you need: Diagrams which are detailed with a full set of dimensions, step-by-step instructions how to start your project and the necessary materials for that particular project. All the woodworking tools you will need: If you are a beginner or have done some woodworking you will find these plans easy-to-follow as the instructions are very clearly written. The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more. There is also a lifetime member acess included in the package and you get these extras for no cost to you as they are free with no additional charges at all! This alone is worth the entire price for TedsWoodworking. Ted Mcgrath is a very dedicated and experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about when it comes to woodworking and DIY projects s he has been a woodworker for many many years. There is only one drawback that we could find and that being with , woodworking plans you are bound to get some which look a little disorganized but that is understandable as it is very difficult to place all these plans into their proper categories. Secondly, it might take you a little longer to do the downloads on because of the size of them. But the members area include an option to upgrade to the DVD so you can save time on downloading. I’ve been a carpenter for almost years, and I haven’t found anything like this for less than ‘s of thousands of dollars. Here’s the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn’t something you SHOULD use, it’s something that you would be insane not to. • the swiffer duster appears to be better than my feather duster. I used to go around with windex on an old t-shirt and then I got the bright idea of “why not do without all this housework” so now I have very little wood showing that I have to clean 🙂

I do know that when you take your computer in to get it fixed and they clean it they use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust. That could get costly though if you were using it at home. If glass items get so dusty could it be you vacuum before you dust? You should be dusting first and then vacuuming. But maybe something where you live is making the place dusty, find out what it is and fix it. oooh, so you have a fireplace, well forget dusting then.

  • You sound exactly like me. Just put together a Whalen shelf black glass stand for a new incher a couple days ago and the dust is already showing. I tried to think of something other than throwing a sheet over it when not in use, and risked trying a VERY dry dryer sheet. They contain lots of anti-static cling which does help on wood furniture. I don’t think the fabric softener contained in them would do anything permanent to the glass, just say ‘risk’ because I don’t want the headache of washing off something ‘soapy’ too. Give it a shot by very lightly wiping the cling sheet over the glass.

  • If you have to find nice ideas for woodworking i can suggest you to check here http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=

It’s perfect if you are just starting out or if you’re a seasoned carpenter. you will like it for sure !

It has almost . woodworking plans and you have a CAD/DWG software to view and edit the plans. You have step-by-step instructions with photos and high quality blueprints and schematics. If you are a beginner this is the easiest way to start your woodworking projects, and if you already have experience you can anyway find a lot of interesting ideas!

Hope you will enjoy it 🙂

  • An air purifier would eliminate some of the dust particles. Also those Swiffer Dusters work well too.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

  • The Swiffer dry-dusters actually work very well for trapping dust.

  • use a swiffer duster
