help understanding ultrasound results?

i had our first ultrasound of our baby today (so cute).

the results came back that we are 7wks and 3 days pregnant, and that there was no implantation bleed.

now…. we had sex a week before i had my last known period (exactly 7wks and 3days ago). and then not again for another 3wks.

the period was just like anyother. Heavy and lasting about a week.

So either we conceived and then i had a period???

or our pregnancy is only 4weeks along, but the ultrasound says otherwise.

is it possible to have a period while pregnant if there was no “implantation” bleed????

Update:

at the ultrasound the worked out the date by the size of the fetal pole, not by the date of last period.

according the last known period i am 8.5 weeks pregnant. according the the ultrasound (which is more accurate) i’m 7wks 3 days.

  • You got your period and then got pregnant. You could not have a period when you are pregnant…sometimes a bit of spotting but if you bleed like a period, you had a miscarriage. Plus, you state that you had sex 1 week before your period and then 3 weeks after. That would put you right at the time of ovulation. If the ultrasound says 7w3d, you are right and that is what is accurate.

  • The first points in the report means they found a calcification (hard substance) which may be from a previous pregnancy (that’s what gestation means) or instrumentation (so if you had any surgery on your uterus or a D+C or if you use an intrauterine device for contraception there could be something there). Point three is a good thing. Means its normal. Point 2 could be something to talk to your Dr. about. Was this Ultrasound referred by your doctor or did you just go yourself? Anyway, an ovarian cyst can very well be the cause of your abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. You should definitely consult your physician and go over the Ultrasound and map out for diagnostic tests and possible treatment.

  • Well they count the weeks that you’re pregnant from the beginning of your last period… NOT from the date of conception so you probably conceived when you had sex three weeks later.

And you can’t have a period while pregnant.. and I didn’t notice any implantation bleeding when I got pregnant either.

  • yes it is possible but pregnancy dates r usually taken from the first day of ur last period. so chances r the time when u had sex 3 weeks later was most prob when u conceived
