  • Depending on what mutation your bird is , this is the way to visually sex it.If it is normal (grey )it will be easy to sex, other mutations are a little harder , but the basics are the same.

    Your bird must be over 6-8 months and have moulted out it’s baby feathers as both male and female have the same markings till they moult.

    Otherwise you will need a DNA test.

    Take hold of your birds wing (if you can ) open it and hold it up to the light, on the underside of the wing feathers you will see what appears to be yellow spots(these are on all mutations)on all flight feathers, under the rump you may see stripes(or bars) likewise on the tail, If you bird has these then it is a female if not it is a male.

    Pied’s are more difficult to sex this way, it is not possible to correctly identify sex by head coloring as White heads do not have facial patches.

  • Well of the face is lighter then its a male. Life if it has really bright red cheeks and a really yellow crest. If its darker its a female. Also you can check its tail, if their are like yellowish lines than its female and if it doesnt then its male.
