How long would a one year old labrador survive in the forest?

I’ve been thinking that dogs are wild animals and are imprisoned by humans. I have a one year old Labrador and I was thinking about letting him free into the forest.

How long wold a one year old labrador survive in the forest? I live in Pennsylvania.

  • Dogs aren’t a wild animals. They are domesticated animals. A Lab might last a week in the forest before he’s picked up by animal control, gets killed by something, or is shot by a farmer after he goes looking for human companionship.

  • How old are you?

Only an adolescent would think of such a ridiculous idea.

Legit: A domesticated young Lab would not last long in a forest.

Dogs are much happier living among people.

    Know your history.

It was wild dogs many years ago that approached humans and wanted to live near them.

They were not “forced” into doing this. Dogs are not imprisoned, far from it. Most live the life of Riley and love it.

  • Dogs, other than wild dogs, haven’t been wild animals since they became domesticated by man. So your thinking about being imprisoned by humans is seriously skewed.

Not only do dogs not normally know how to hunt and kill to survive (much as some could and once they go missing they might revert to some extent, or find another human to take them in) but it’s more likely some wild animal out there would attack and kill a weakened dog.

    Me thinks you are trolling.

  • What is with all the stupid questions today ?

Seriously if this is true and you don’t want your dog which is sad then give it back to the breeder.find a Breed rescue or take to a shelter .

Some how i think this is not true .But then the question should be why would some one make up something like this in the first place ?

  • With all due respect are you insane. You can’t leave him in a forest- he is a domesticated animal he wouldn’t survive very long because he can get attacked or killed by something -,there are many other things it could hurt him what is wrong with you.

  • Domesticated dogs don’t know how to survive in the wild. They don’t know how to hunt or escape from being attacked. Dogs are loyal to their owners because they like being with their owners. My Chihuahua, Bitty, used to live in the wild and she could easily run off and be in the wild again if she wanted to (although we’d do everything possible to get her back), but she chooses to stay with us. As long as you give your dog plenty of supervised and controlled outside time, he’ll be happy and he’ll have someone to pet him and give him time with other animals. He should be around other animals as long as he won’t hurt or bother them or get hurt or bothered by them.

  • DO NOT LET UR LABRADOR FREE! It is neglect towards this antimal. If you let ur labrador out it will NOT survive in the forest its been born into captivity therefore it is used to being served meals and anything else.YOU WILL KILL IT! If you let it out

My advice:DO NOT LET IT OUT you’ll be arrested for animal neglect

  • i’m telling you he won’t survive to that forest

the dog will die if you let him go away

how could you be so mean to your dog

  • I hope this is not a serious question. Dogs are descended from wolves, but they have been bred to be pets and companions. If you don’t want your dog, kindly take him to a no kill shelter.

  • Idiot. Your dog is domesticated, few dogs do well as feral or wild dogs.
