  • its a gas, liquid, and plasma

but what i think you are asking for is Neon in signs ?

it is of course a Noble gas, 8 valence, doesnt like to bond with anything at all.

it can be a liquid, but for a sign, liquid is pretty much out of the question. since its boiling point is around 27 degrees K = -246 degrees Celsius

plasma is an ionized gas, in which a certain proportion of electrons are free rather than being bound to an atom or molecule. The ability of the positive and negative charges to move somewhat independently makes the plasma electrically conductive so that it responds strongly to electromagnetic fields. Plasma therefore has properties quite unlike those of solids, liquids or gases and is considered to be a distinct state of matter.

when neon gas is used in lit signs, it is excited with electrodes, causing it to ionize, which creates free floating ions that make up plasma. plasma = ions released from neon, and thats what happens.

  • What people know as Neon is a plasma. Found naturally, it will be a gas. A plasma is an ionized substance. So neon in a sign will be a plasma

  • Neon is an element. It’s physical state depends on the temperature and pressure of its surroundings. At room temperature and atmospheric pressure, it’s a gas. In neon lamps when the power is flowing, it ionizes to a plasma.

  • It depends on where it is, what temperature it is, and whether or not it is charged.

At room temperature, freely floating around, it is a gas.

If you make it cold enough, you might be liquid neon.

In a neon light tube, when it is off, it is a gas. But when you apply a charge to it, the electrons in the neon atoms free themselves, and it is a plasma.

So ultimately, the answer is “it depends.”

  • Neon is a gas.

When placed in a neon tube and lit up, it becomes ionized and is technically a plasma.

You could get it as a liquid, but it would be pretty cold.

  • Neon at room temperature is actually a gas. It is in the Noble gases section of the periodic table of elements. It has a full outer valence of electrons (2nd orbital contains 8 electrons) so the gas does not react with other elements.

  • It’s actually a gas. Neon was discovered when Ramsay chilled a sample of the atmosphere until it became a liquid, then warmed the liquid and captured the gases as they boiled off. so it’s kinda confusing

  • Neon is a gas.

It is a noble gas, a colorless gas. Being a noble gas means that it is highly unreactive. It has eight electrons in its outer shell, which is why it’s so unreactive, eight is the maximum number you can have, and therefore, it has no need to react.

  • very sure its a gas its the gas in all the lights at bars that give them the “neon” glow

  • Neither, it is a gas.

It belongs to the noble gas group. It is element #10, and if you check a periodic table, it will show it as a gas.
