Is this a good gaming computer?

My grandmother bought a computer from walmart for us. I am in no way a computer expert, but this looks like it has good specs. I will be upgrading the ram and video card.

Here is the link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Black-Pavilion-pw…

Would I need to upgrade anything else? I would like to build my own pc, but this is cheaper for now, to just buy ram and a good video card.

  • NO, NOT GOOD.

Besides being an older model, that is also just an entry level computer, with very low end specs.

It only has integrated AMD Radeon HD graphics, not at all good for gaming.

The only option would be to buy it and upgrade graphics card and power supply (another $-$).

Minimal would be Radeon HD graphics card with a good quality W power supply.

Best would be a GeForce GTX Ti or Radeon HD graphics card with a W power supply.

  • After the memory and graphics card upgrades, with a power supply upgrade to support the graphics card, the next step, when you’re ready for it, would be the processor.

Even though the Phenom II X is a fast processor, it isn’t a very good processor for gaming. It’s benchmark scores show that it’s equal to the Phenom II X –

Which in this Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart, the doesn’t have a very good rating for gaming.

In the specs for that system it lists your processor upgrade options. Note that you can only use up to W processors in that system.

A good, inexpensive upgrade would be the W Phenom II X . A vast improvement for gaming (see CPU chart above), the W version of the goes for around $~$ on eBay.

VERY IMPORTANT….To ensure that the processor upgrade is fully functional and compatible, be sure that you update the BIOS *BEFORE* you install the new processor. You’ll find the newest BIOS version here-

There are plenty of “how to” videos on youtube that will help with this upgrade.

And don’t forget the thermal compound, it’s not an option. I’d recommend using Arctic Silver . Here’s a link that includes removal of the old (a high purity %+ isopropyl alcohol and coffee filters work fine) as well as how to apply the new.

  • It’sgood for low-end and some moderate gaming.

The graphics card is what allows the computer to show images. Your graphics card is built-in to the motherboard, meaning it is not super-powerful. It can run most low-end games and a few moderately requiring games.

In the future, if you find you enjoy gaming, you might want to buy a new graphics card.

Also, some games that you may find easy to run are Source games (google them)

Source(s): Just built my first computer 😀

  • Its good for running games at a low graphic setting, I would recommend a Graphics card like a Nvidia GeForce. This one has a radeon, I used to have one but Better graphics means better experience. SO like I said before, It can still run games, but with at least low and maybe medium graphic settings on games (depends what game).

  • The Sims is surely relaxing. It takes up fairly an incredible form of your computing gadget memory yet its somewhat good. additionally video games like Sonic and massive Mario are good. however the Sims is my prevalent 😀

  • The processor is a bit on the low-end side for modern gaming. It’s not going to stop you from playing games (yet), but it might slow you down.
