just started to train my new puppy today on the coller, and ive one little question.?

i just started training my new jack russell puppy, hes now 8weeks old today and i got his coller and lead. i do know most of the things to train him but i just have one question.

when i am getting him used to the coller how much times a day will i pop it on him? i put it on him for about 5-10 minutes and then i took it off him a few minutes ago, and he wasnt too bad, hes scratch himself a little bit but i tried to distract him by feeding him a little bit of food and playing with him so will i just put it on him once a day or will i put it on him every so often?

i do know to increase th elenght and all the other steps but i just need to know this question,

thanks.

Update:

the puppy wont be wearing the coller full time only when i take him for walks or out of the house.

Update 2:

well i was surprised as it didnt bother him as much as i though it would,

Update 3:

i will do it in a positive way, to-day when he had it on i gave him a new toy that he never had before that i just bought, he loved it!!!

  • I think if your dog likes to be walked he’ll put two and two together quite fast. To me the collar is not that big of a deal. I mean if you put it on and leave it on chances are he won’t care either way. The harder part sometimes is getting them to walk on a leash. Associate the collar with the walk and he’ll get it with lightning speed if he is like any other Jack Russell I have ever seen. They are smart. As far as leaving the collar on there are benefits. If he ever gets out on accident he has a much better chance of getting back to you with a collar and a tag than without. The only con I see is if your crate your dog then it can get caught. Course I don’t make mine wear them either but you know if something happened like hurricane Katrina for instance I guess we’d both be upset because out dogs would have no ID unless they are microchipped and that is sometimes a problem because there are two different kinds of chips and readers so you have to make sure your dog is chipped with a universal chip that both wands in use today can read.

  • I truthfully would not fear. Like persons, puppies have one-of-a-kind personalities additionally. Dogs be trained instructions at one-of-a-kind phases. Mine took really a even as to educate for the reason that she did not desire to concentrate. It’s irritating however simply stick with it. One day it is going to simply out of the blue click on. When this occurs, take it to the following degree. Make the puppy sit down at the same time you are taking a couple of steps clear of the puppy. Keep doing this till you’ll stroll anyplace and the puppy stay sat after which name the puppy for a deal with. There is not a lot recommendation relatively. Honestly do not fear it is average. However some thing could have occurred to the puppy to make it apprehensive in particular with the phrase ‘sit down’. Try decreasing the tone of voice and say it in a gentler means. You would additionally use a random phrase because the command to take a seat as good.

  • You can break him slowly by collaring him up just a few min’s. a day. 10 to 15 min’s a day is fine.Walk the dog around a little at a time until the dog get the idea of what your trying to do. Praise the puppy often, wearing a collar should be a happy thing for your dog’ Like going bye bye’

  • Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I’d suggest you https://bitly.im/aMjgR

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

  • I think you are doing it just right. Keep it up. My 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd does not wear a collar at all at home, only when I walk him. Yes, keep extending the length a little bit and your puppy will not even realize what is happening.

  • I use the collar as a training tool, even when the puppy is young.

    Collar on = work time

    Collar off = free time

So they grow up knowing that when the collar goes on we are going to go do something.

  • The more you do it the faster he will get used to it. Just make sure every time it goes on he has a positive experience and he’ll be begging you to put it on in no time.

  • If the collar is not bugging him too bad, I would leave it on there for as long as possible.

Our dog does not take his collar off, EVER….unless he’s getting a bath or being brushed.

  • i would suggest keeping the collar on him all the time when he gets used to it, that way you can get an i.d tag and put it on his collar

  • every so often. juggle it around so he doesn’t anticipate it. keep giving treats, play and praise!
