My WD 5gb Passport Shows up on "My Devices" but I can't access files in My Computer. HELP!?

I run the passport on a windows 7 Laptop. I have also tried to use the device on a windows 8 device and a Mac laptop.

The device is recognisable on the my devices section of my computer and after selecting properties it states that the device is working properly but I can’t actually access the files as no icon appears in when I try to access it through “My Computer”.

The light on the device flashes and looks like it is working properly. Can some please help me to find a way to access the files on the device or is it time to replace the device? It is less than 1 year old.

I can select the device

Update:

It shows up in disk management but is not initialized. When I go to initialize the disk and error appears saying ” this request cannot be performed due to an I/O device error.

  • Try it in disk management or try to connect your hard drive to another computer. If still the same and your files are important then take it to a local data recovery company for a free evaluation.
