Need a pistol with a light trigger pull?

I just got my concealed carry license and i am looking to buy a small pistol. The problem I’m having is I have very week hand strength. I have tried numerous small guns and struggled with the trigger pull. The gun I used to shoot for the class was a Ruger MarkIII. It has a very light pull and was easy for me to shoot. I would like to purchase at least a .380 for carry but am having trouble finding an easy pull. I’ve tried the LCP, Bersa, and Sig .380s with no luck. Can anyone recommend a small.380 with a very light trigger pull?

  • You could get a Glock, any Glock. There is a drop-in sear kit available that drops the trigger pull to 3 and 1/2 pounds. That being said, that is a VERY light trigger pull for defense work. If you really want a .380, look for a used Colt Maverick. It looks like a little M1911, and it has the same crisp single-action trigger.

  • Consider Zakonye’s advice. You don’t want a hair trigger on any gun without a safety you’re wearing loaded and chambered. You don’t want to wind up shooting the wrong person in a hurried pinch. I carry a LCP and appreciate that long and deliberate pull required.

If you must lighten the trigger, buy the gun you like which fits you and your needs, and have gunsmith lighten the pull. But only to the maximum required for you.

  • No. The small .380s are designed to be carried in a pocket. Usually the only safety on any of these guns is a long, heavy trigger pull.

You can pick up a Glock 26 and change out to a lighter trigger pull. Almost every gun store has a Glock Armorer working for them who can do the work.

  • You might try a revolver that can be fired either single action (pulling the hammer back) or double action (just pulling the trigger). The trigger pull on a revolver when the hammer is pulled back is much lighter, and should be acceptable for you. The next option would be to take your firearm of choice to a gunsmith and check into having a trigger job done. Most competent gunsmiths can lighten up the trigger pull fairly reasonably.

  • Did you ever consider finding a gun that fits your hand and having the trigger worked by a gunsmith?

  • I’m not a big fan of them myself, but you might want to consider the striker-fired offerings from Glock, S&W (Sigma), and Springfield (XD).
