PC running slow while gaming and boot up issues, could it be my graphics card?

But just randomly a couple of days ago while browsing the internet my computer froze and would not respond and games fps dropped to half ( fallout was running at fps and it is running at – fps and so all my games)…so i restart with the button (secs) and turned it back on. It ran fine for awhile until switch it off with the same method. This time my computer would not boot up…it would just go to the windows loading screen and sit there ’til a black screen or blue screen shows up says something about physical memory dump. Tried multiple times to reformat and reinstall my OS to get my damn PC works properly..even get that far. Eventually I tried putting in my OS again disk thinking I needed to repair some files but it didn’t work…could it be my gpu…BY the way i keep hearing stuttering sounds from my headphone when i brows my PC and computer won’t wake up after sleep/hibernate?

anyways…

CPU: INTEL core duo . GHz E

OS: windows ultimate BIT.

Hard Drive: GB (not sure of the model).

Ram: just know that is GB DDR

Motherboard: gigabyte P.

GPU; nvidia geforce (GB DRR)

sorry im vague on my specs but its a pretty old computer…

Thanks for any and all help and yes I know i should probably just upgrade but I don’t quite have the funds for that yet 🙂

  • I would suggest that first you check your hard drive to see if it is full. If it % or more full that will slow down you computer and cause the problems that you describe.

If the hard drive is not full it might be failing. You can run a free check on the health of your hard drive with Seatools for DOS. You have to burn it to a cd and boot the computer from the cd and test you hard drive.

If both of those are o.k. then you could download a free utility to check your computer. See the last link.

    Good luck

  • I bet your hard drive is failing, I had very similar symptoms to that when my laptop hard drive was dying. The PC running unusually slow, windows would take forever to load until it just wouldn’t load at all, I couldn’t reinstall my OS.. I never had a BSOD though.

  • top, contained interior the hardware section, you will likely desire to have a sensible processor, substantial quantity of RAM, unfastened not difficulty-free tension section and such as you stated a sensible video card. with reference to the requirment of the processor velocity, quantity of RAM and AGP memory, it relies upon on the intensity of the sport. technical settings indoors the sport could be consistently greater suitable sensible to pass away it as defaults diverse than the audio stuffs like history musics and stuffs that must be replaced as you like coz isn’t gonna effect the common average overall performance of the sport. lower back, the video determination needed can form observing the video games you play. you are going to be able to refer the applying and harware requirments what the perticular sport recommends.

  • Sounds like motherboard issues to me. That’s just my opinion though. Another thing that could be happening is that component/s could be overheating inside of your computer and throttling themselves down to decrease temperature so that they don’t get damage.

If you still suspect that is your GPU, you can try swapping it out with one of your friends ones, to test.

    Hope this helps.
