  • The surf in the southern part of the county is better this time of year. But if you’re going to be coming down here in the summer, you’ll want to stay in North County which picks up those nice South Swells from Baja.

As far as staying for dirt cheap, you can’t find much near the beach in San Diego county for less than $50 bucks a night and even that would be in the off season. My recommendation would be to stay in Oceanside (which is still pretty inexpensive) and surf up there. They still have a lot of cheap hotels within a mile of the beach. You could also stay at a Youth Hostel (if you’re a student) like the Banana Bungalow in Pacific Beach. It’s a disgusting dirty rathole, but it’s close to the beach and cheap. There’s one in Ocean Beach too.

    I hope that helps.

  • If you want to go cheap you’re better off reserving a campsite. Check out sites near Encinitas, San Onofre, or Trestles that are practically on the beach. If you want an actual motel, check out www. motel6.com

  • you should go to blacks beach in san diego and its not that pricey but i don’t know of anything in the southern county

  • dont go surfing in san diego. it sucks! go to lowers on a big swell and huntington beach. its rarely crowded and there are plenty of good peaks.
