What is the best way to train a rainbow lorikeet?

I have a 11 week old rainbow lorikeet named Jack. He has started biting and chewing whatever he can get his claws on. He gets loads of attention, is out of the cage whenever we are home and has heaps of toys and room to move around. Is this normal behaviour for lorikeets? How can I get him to stop nibbling on fingers, ears, toes etc as it is quite painful at times. Any tips on training him further would be appreciated.

Also at what age can you clip their wings?

  • Use a leather glove when you handle him.

Let him chew on wood. He wants to gnaw. Go to the hardware store, and get blocks of lumber for him to chew on. Just make sure it wasn’t treated with chemicals. You can find that in the back, where they saw. Chances are, they won’t even charge you. Just ask for remnants.

When his chewing and gnawing instinct is satisfied, then you can move on to other things.
