What is your opinion on this idea?

My idea was to go down 50-1m down, right beside an ocean and make a place to live there. There would be a hole leading from the ocean to a few turbines which would, along with geothermal energy, power the house. Then saltwater would be converted to clean water and plants would be grown using artificial light. Thoughts please?

  • Off-grid living/sustainable homes are really cool. Not only are you energy independent, but also financially independent. No more paying electric, heating, AC, and water bills. Best of luck on your project.

  • One issue facing Earth homes and probably your design is high humidity, lack of sunlight and a constant temperature that is colder than is comfortable. All these things require energy to correct so in addition to the added building expense you would have an additional operating burden.

  • Thats already in operation for some power plants and dams are made just for this purpose. Mike
