Why do I keep itching after tanning in tanning bed?

I’ve been tanning in a tanning bed for about a week now. I’ve done this before and know the consequences so please do not lecture me. I started off going for 15 minutes for two sessions and got burnt real quick. So I took two days off and went back to tanning for 5-6 minutes each time. I use tanning lotion and the itch has happened to me before. I went last year for prom and the itch was unbearable. I clean the be myself before going in and blah blah blah. The itch finally went away last year after changing to a new lotion (which I am using up this year). I don’t know what to do about this itch. I moisturize with aloe a few times a day. Could this possibly be tanners itch or whatever? And will it eventually go away? Please help meeee.

  • Well if the itch went away after changing lotions, then yes it could have just been a chemical in the lotion, which could appear in other types of tanning lotions. Otherwise, It could just be your skin being sensitive. Even though you have gone before, every tanning bed gives off its rays a little bit differently and can effect your skin differently so you should still begin going in at a smaller time crunch and then increase each time. Some beds at my salon will burn me, and some will only tan one side. So it all depends. My guess would be that your skin is being sensitive or you have an ‘invisible’ sunburn. (You cannot see it but it acts as a sunburn) Try talking to the salon worker; they could have gotten other complaints and might have the solution! Hope all goes well (:
