Why do we get old and die?

On a cellular level, why do we age? It seems like evolution would have made us live until injury, sickness, starvation, or predation. But this is not the case.

Could it be something like a “kill switch” in your DNA? If this could be, can scientists turn it off?

Or is it that the DNA in each cell gets damaged or deteriorated as it devides?

I may be wrong but i was just stating some ideas.

  • There are multiple theories right now researchers seem to be focusing on the shortening of telomeres (at least the last time I checked).
  • die caused by injure or sick. in case if old age then its illness, the older you are the organs get weaker and when struck by an ill its hard to recover and fatality inevitable. your idea about turn off the kill switch is too vague, what do you mean? is it old age prevention? its possible then, just froze it in a super freezer.

  • Adam and Eve ate the fruit. Now we all die.
