Fluids on my dogs rib area after she got spaded?

My dog went into surgury a few hours ago and there’s like a big liquid feeling substance underneith her skin, I took her back to the hospitol and they said they injected her with a fluid and its in that spot because they couldn’t get it into her veins, but I’m getting worried because if I touch that spot she yelps. I don’t knlw if the guy knew what he was talking about because he said I’m allowed to touch it and pet her in that spot, but evidentally I can’t . Should I seek more help? My dogs a chiwawa and polmeranian mix if it helps

  • Your dog is a *Chihuahua x *Pomeranian who was recently *spayed.

Dogs that are given fluids often have a squishy, liquid-filled area for several or more hours afterward. It takes the body time to absorb the fluids. Fluids aren’t injected into veins, they are given under the skin. The fluid is injected with a rather large needle which could leave a sore area.

You can but you don’t have to touch that sore area, and after *surgery, the dog should be allowed to rest and not be handled much at all. Your dog has had MAJOR SURGERY and she is tired and sore and hurting and NEEDS some alone time when she is not being looked at, spoken to, touched, petted, offered food or toys, etc. Leave the dog alone as long as she has a nice place to lay down and won’t be too hot or too cold. Hands off! Give her a break, let her rest and recover.

Each day, your dog will feel a *little* bit better, until she is all healed.

  • take her to another vet i have two girls that were spayed and i have never heard of this go to another vet or at least call another right away
