How do i get my mom to get me a dog…that sheds? NOT WHAT YOU THINK, PLEASE READ!?

PLEASE READ, ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK!

Okay, so i already got her to get me a dog, easy as pie. We have two German shepherds, that shed a lot. My oldest dog Sarah is at least nine or ten, and was abused and isn’t going to live much longer. (We rescued her from a rescue). Anyway, i really want a red tri Aussie, but they shed.My mom likes this breed, they just shed. We use FURminator on my two GSD’s, and it works but not really good. How can i convince her to get me a shedding dog, and how do i reduce the shedding by as much as possible, and should i keep even using the FURminator? Thanks

Update:

LOL nice i idea! i’ll give it a try lol

Update 2:

She does want another one and i am not completly hooked on a Aussie…

  • Get an undercoat rake, a slicker brush, and a fine tooth comb, use it everyday, and promise you’ll vacuum everyday.

    End of hair probably really.

  • I suggest that you get a Portuguese water dog. This is the same breed of dog that President Barack Obama and his family have. I have some friends who have two dogs of this breed and the dogs are loving, intelligent, protective, and get along very well with children. They have a calm temperament, and are not too aggressive toward people, but when people see them they think the dog will attack them because they appear to be menacing when they are full grown, whereas their looks don’t represent how they act toward people. They are breed of dog that likes the water, and were you to take them to anyplace where there is water, they will want to jump into the water. Their coats have a natural oil that keeps them warm enough so they don’t feel the cold from the water, and they will surprise you when they will jump into an icy pond and emerge shaking the water off and soon then in a few minutes, jump right back in. That is why they are given the name, Portuguese water dog. They don’t shed very much, but their coats do need washing after they run through the woods or jump into the water. The cost of a Portuguese water dog is pretty high. I have seen some selling for anywhere from $1,5. to $20., and that is the price for a dog with a pedigree (papers). You won’t need a FURminator were you to get a Portuguese water dog. Good luck in finding the dog you want.

  • I have a Blue Merle (Mini) Aussie. I give her a bath once a month or when ever she needs it and brush her once a week or so. She lives in the house and doesn’t shed that much, my 3 short hair cats shed way more then her. I use a slicker brush and a double sided brush(metal bristles on one side and soft bristles on the other) and it works great!

I have only had GSD mixes before and they shed a ton, way more then my Aussie does.

  • Well you should try looking into more breeds instead of getting stuck on one. Try looking for a breed that doesn’t shed a lot, but if you’re truly stuck on the aussie then tell your mom that you will vaccuum. My guess is that the main reason she doesn’t want a shedding dog is because she doesn’t want to have to vacuum up all the extra fur.

  • Just keep begging her, but don’t be a nuisance just say stuff like ” Mom i really want a new german shepherd”. Tell her me cletic! told you how to prevent shedding. To prevent it give it a good brush for 5 minuites twice a day and if you brush all over there should be no shedding problems in summer :).

    Kind Regards

  • I use a rake to brush my dogs…it is a special brush that gets all of the undercoat out and keeps them nice and shiny and more comfortable. I use this everyday on my dogs and this makes them shed a lot less…at least after you brush them…while you brush them they lose ALOT of hair so it is best to do it outside. If you inform you mom about this maybe you could get the dog…if you promise to brush it regularly.

  • If mom doesnt want another dog, then she is not obligated to get another dog… shedding or not. You already have 2 dogs.. enjoy what you DO have. Dogs are expensive to care for.

If mom is agreeing to a 3rd dog, she certainly has the right to decide what kind of dog to get.. after all SHE is the one who will be paying for it, SHE is the one who will be paying for all the vet care, food, grooming, etc, SHE is the one who will most likely be stuck owning the dog when you eventually move out.

You cannot reduce shedding.. you choose breeds that have a thick undercoat, you deal with it. You brush daily to remove the dead hairs, and vaccuume. A good diet may help some too.

  • throw the furminator away!

    waste of money!

I use a metal rake for the undercoat first, then a finishing brush. I usually brush them every other day.

both brushes cost about $8 each in petsmart

(or get a good Frabo rake for $14.)

  • Aussies don’t shed anymore than a GSD. You don’t need an Australian Shepherd unless you have the time and funds to put the dog on livestock.

  • I don’t like the furminator

I use a greyhound comb and slicker brush on long hair daogs

a deshedding ( curry) brush works good on the shorter hair of the shepherd
