what gender are my chicks?

One of them is a dark red brown, the other a yellowish orange with a brown stripe down it’s back.

Does the coloring tell whether it is female or male?

If not, are there any other ways to determine the answer?

  • Color of chicks is for camouflage not gender. There are only a few varieties of poultry that have a sex linked color. You will have to wait till they mature to be sure. Roosters will start to have a better developed comb and at some point will start to crow. Sexing new born chicks is an art , done at the hatchery by a professional sexer. They have the ability to open and look a the structures in the chicks vent to determine what sex it is. In most feed stores you can purchase pullets or cocks. That way it takes the guess out of sexing chickens.

  • As far as I know their color has nothing to do with gender
