Are LCD monitors supposed to be dark?

When I say dark, I mean dim. I can see everything perfectly, but the overall picture is just really dim compared to my CRT. To tell the truth, this is my very first time using an LCD computer monitor so I don’t know what to expect out of them. :/

I can finally relax my eyes and stop squinting, but still..

Update:

I remember because I’ve been using a CRT monitor until late last month.
